It is a great honor for Christian Coalition World (KKN) that our Chairman, Rev. Jan-Aage Torp, will be a speaker at the Congress of the Europa Christi Movement at Łódź University in Poland on October 19th-20th. He has been asked to speak about «Witnesses of Faith. Looking at the Cross. Martyrdom, an Expression of Infinite Trust». Torp is the only pentecostal-protestant speaker at the Congress.
The Europa Christi Movement was born in Poland two years ago to defend the Christian roots of Europe. This movement does not have an ecclesial character but wants to unite all who are concerned about the tendencies to strip Europe from its Christian identity.
The Congress of Europa Cristi will be hosted by the Higher School of Economics and Management in Łódź, together with the Senate of the Polish Republic, the University of Cardinal Wyszynski in Warsaw, and other institutions. The blessed Jerzy Popieluszko, priest and martyr from Warsaw, patron of the famous Soidarnosc (Solidarity) Movement, a Polish Roman Catholic priest who became associated with the opposition Solidarity trade union in communist Poland. He was murdered in 1984 by three agents of Służba Bezpieczeństwa (Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs).
The day when Torp speaks will commemorate the blessed Jerzy Popieluszko, priest and martyr from Warsaw, patron of the famous Soidarnosc (Solidarity) Movement, a Polish Roman Catholic priest who became associated with the opposition Solidarity trade union in communist Poland. He was murdered in 1984 by three agents of Służba Bezpieczeństwa (Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs).
In the invitation letter to Jan-Aage Torp from Father Jaroslaw Krzewicki, Rector of the SWEiZ (Łódź University School of Economics and Management), he writes: «We would be very grateful and honored if you will enrich us with your attention and reflection on the persecutions of the Martyrs in Europe. It would be very interesting to know your opinion about the growing of faith in Europe today. I am sure that the blood of the sacrifice of the martyrs, together with the Cross of Christ, is for us a good reason to trust in the grace of the Lord our God, wich is important for the world to bellieve in our mission.»Archbishop of Łódź Grzegorz Ryś. Professor of Theological Sciences and Bishop from Gliwice (Czech) Jan Kopiec.
Jan-Aage Torp says about the invitation: - This is a huge honor for KKN and for pentecostals and protestants in Norway! Although we have considerable differences in theology and tradition, I have a tremendous respect for the Roman Catholic Church. The stance of the Popes on the sanctity of life and the integrity of marriage and family makes him the leading voice on morality in the world today. As far back as in 1993 I expressed on national tv my desire to invite Pope John Paul II to Oslo to speak at a pro-life rally. Who knows, we might see Pope Francis in Oslo in the near future!
Professors and bishops will speak, among them Cardinal Mauro Piacenza from Rome, who is the Prelate of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy; Archbishop of Łódź Grzegorz Ryś; Professor of Theological Sciences and Bishop from Gliwice (Czech) Jan Kopiec; Msgr. Lluis Clavell, a member of the Roman Curia which is the central body through which the Pope conducts the affairs of the universal Catholic Church; as well as scientists from France, Estonia and other European countries. The supreme Polish government authorities will be present. The Prime Ministers of Poland and Hungary will also be among the speakers.
Although the Congress in Łódź is an academic and cultural act, the whole event takes place under the patronage of the Polish Episcopal Conference and the public authorities of the Republic of Poland.
